At Klein's Nursery we aim to provide the best product for a reasonable price. We use a pregerminator and mechanical seed sower for some seed lots to improve germination and quality. We use local seed where possible, but also have access to seed from many locations from companies such as CSIRO if required. Pre-germination:
Most seeds are pregerminated in our pregerminator for a
set period of time depending on type of seed, and then separated (good from bad
seed and chaff) so that we only sow the best possible seed, then we sow with our
K.W seed sower into 512
trays, we then place the trays into a cool store and maintain a constant
temperature to suit the type of plant for 1 to 3 days to promote a uniformed
germination. Then off to the hot house for 4 to 6 weeks, later we transfer the
plug into Hiko V93 tray or Forestry Tube’s, using
this method we have found it to be very successful because we can grade the
quality of the plants as seed and again as a plant 4 to 6 weeks of age. All plants will be held off the ground so that when the roots protrude out of the bottom of the cell they are air pruned, and because of the conditions that our plants are exposed to, we harden them up simply by reducing their feed and exposing them to wind, sun and frost.
This Nursery Has the ability to hold in excess of 700,000 plants in mixed pots (Forestry Tubes & Hiko V93) but at this time we still have not reached this number. |
