Acacia longifolia var. sophorae

Common Name: Coast Wattle

Height: 1-8 metres

Spread: 3 metres

Habit: Bushy shrub.

 

Origin/Habitat: Common on coast

Foliage: Light green in colour, ‘leathery’ in feel.

Flowers: July-Oct. Yellow.

Other features for identification: Pods, leathery and pale brown in colour. Broader and more twisted than Acacia longifolia.

Soil preferences: Fertilise at plant out with 15gm of  18:2.6:10 N.P.K slow release.

Cultural tolerances: Requires full sun. Very resistant to salt winds, and saline soils. Resistant to frost and pollution. Moderately resistant to drought. Wind tolerance- can be placed in the front line of a windbreak.

Maintenance requirements: Low. Add a 9 month fertiliser in spring.

Uses:      Ornamental ,  Bird Attracting ,  Windbreak ,  Erosion Control & Coastal

Other: Medium fire risk.
