Melaleuca diosmifolia

Common Name: Diosma-leafed Honey-myrtle

Height: 2 metres.

Spread: 2 metres.

 

Habit: Medium shrub.

Family: Myrtaceae

Origin/Habitat: Found in the rocky, granite coastline of southern Western Australia.

Foliage: Dark green in colour, oval in shape with a smooth edge.

Flowers: Pale green/yellow-green coloured flowers in late spring to early summer. Some plants take 7-10 years before producing flowers.

Other features for identification: Woody capsules, about 1cm in diameter, are fused together to form a spike up to 6cm in length ´ 2.5cm.

Soil preferences: Prefers pH of alkaline to neutral. Fertilise at plant out with 15gm of 18:2.6:10 N.P.K slow release. Prefers a moist, well drained or wet soil.

Cultural tolerances: Will grow from subtropic to cool temperature zones in most soils. Requires full sun. Resistant to pollution; moderately resistant to drought; tender to frost. Wind tolerance – can be placed in the second line of a windbreak.

Maintenance requirements: Prune regularly, and add a 9 month slow release fertiliser in spring.
