Eucalyptus globoidea

Common Name:  White Stringybark

Height: 15-35 metres

Habit: Medium tree.

Family:  Myrtaceae

Origin/Habitat: Common in eastern, near-coastal open forests.

Foliage: Adult leaves 6-10cm ´ 2-3cm. Oblique, fairly thick with one side slightly darker and glossier. Juvenile leaves opposite, becoming alternate. Underside paler with minute hairs.

Flowers: Dec-March. White in colour.

Other features for identification: Buds 6-12 per cluster. Fruit small 5-7mm, sometimes crowded. Valves tiny, near rim level. Bark is grey-brown in colour, thick and fissured, firm and stringy, persistent to small branches.

Soil preferences: Fertilise at plant out with 15gm of 18:2.6:10 NPK slow release.

Cultural tolerances: Requires full sun. Moderately resistant to salt winds, drought and frost. Wind tolerance – can be placed in the front line of a windbreak.

Maintenance requirements: Low. Add a 9 month slow release fertiliser in spring.

Uses:     Firewood    &  Timber

Other: High fire risk. Wood is pale pink-brown, hard, strong and fairly durable. Good for poles, and is fair as fuel.
